Marco Spada

Marco Spada was born in Rome and has a degree in History of Musica at La Sapienza Univeristy in Rome. He studied piano and singing as well. He was involved as resarcher at “Fondazione Rossini” in Pesaro, at “Istituto Nazionale di Studi Verdiani” in Parma and “Cidim” in Rome.
He wrote several scientific essays on the Italian Melodrama of XIX century and Rossini’s opera seria, particulary on  Elisabetta regina d’Inghilterra.
Marco Spada was music critic for RAI-RadioDue and for the newspaper “L’Unità” and he was invited as musicologist in different institution as Teatro San Carlo of Neaples, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Accademia Filarmonica Romana and Opera of Rome, Teatro Comunale of Bologna, Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania, Rossini Opera Festival, English National Opera of London. The italian publisher Ricordi has printed his book on Rossini for the Anniversary of the composer on 1992. He held the charge of Press Officer at Sferisterio of MacerataOpera.
On 1998 Marco Spada has been appointed Artistic Director of Ente Concerti “De Carolis” – Teatro di Tradizione of Sassari.
On 2004 he started the activity of lyric stage director. In Sassari he realized many productions: Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdink (2004), Mosè in Egitto by Rossini (2005, world premiere of the critical edition), renewed at Opera of Rome (2007), La clemenza di Tito (2006), also performed in Stavanger (Norway, 2008) and Luisa Miller(2007). Ha has directed La notte di un nevrastenico by Nino Rota at Politeama Greco of Lecce (2006), Lucia di Lammermoor at Theatre of Debrecen and State Opera of Budapest (Hungary), also in Sassari on 2009, and Marino Faliero by Donizetti at  Bergamo Opera Festival (2008). In autumn 2010, again in Bergamo and Sassari, he directed Donizetti’s Poliuto.
